HisGrace OSCE Examiner runs an Objective Structured Clinical Examination over a local network — candidates take the digital Question Stations in a browser, while examiners use the same web URL to grade the physical Procedure Stations against a digital grading sheet. This guide walks through the full workflow from setup to exporting the final results.

Phase 1: Initial Setup & Configuration
Install & launch
Install the HisGrace OSCE Examiner application (the download link and default login credentials are on the software's download page), then launch it and log in.
Open Settings & configure preferences
On the left navigation menu, click Settings and configure each area:
- Login Details — update the default admin username and password.
- Security Triggers — set alerts or events that fire when an examinee minimises the exam window or switches their browser tab.
- Backup / Restore — back up your configurations or restore previously uploaded exam modules.
- Login Appearance — upload a custom background image for the web login page.
Change the default admin password before going live — it's published on the download page.
Phase 2: Uploading & Activating the Exam Module
The exam module must first be created in the companion HisGrace OSCE Maker — see OSCE Maker: Build & Publish an OSCE Module.
Upload the module
On the left menu, click Manage Exams, then click Upload Exam Module. Locate the module file on your computer, select it, and click Open.
Activate the module
A prompt asks whether to activate the module automatically — click Yes. Only active modules let examinees and examiners log in and conduct examinations.
Verify participants
Right-click the active module and choose Examinees/Examiners to see the list of candidates and examiners assigned to it.
Right-click a specific candidate for additional management options.
Confirm on the dashboard
Click Dashboard on the left menu. It now reflects the active module name and the total number of assigned examinees and examiners.
Phase 3: Starting the Server Connection
Check the status bar
On the Dashboard, look at the status bar at the bottom. It starts red and shows a local IP address, which means the network connection hasn't started yet.
Open Live & start the connection
Click Live on the left menu, then click the Start Connection button.
Capture the web URL
The status bar turns green and the network IP address (Web URL) for the examination is generated. Note this URL — both examinees and examiners will need it.
Phase 4: Examinee Workflow (Question Stations)
Open the web URL
On a client computer or mobile device, open a web browser and type the generated Web URL into the address bar. The custom exam login page loads.
Examinee log in
The candidate logs in using their Examinee credentials. Their dashboard displays all the stations assigned to them.
At this stage, candidates can only interact with Question Stations. Procedure Stations are graded by an examiner in person.
Take a Question Station
The candidate clicks their designated Question Station to begin. Once finished, they click Submit at the top right.
View the result & finish
The result is displayed immediately (if enabled in the module settings). The completed station now appears green on the candidate's dashboard, indicating it's finished.
Log out for the next station
The candidate logs out so they can proceed to the physical Procedure Station.
Phase 5: Examiner Workflow (Procedure Stations)
Open the same web URL
The examiner opens a web browser on their device and navigates to the exact same Web URL used by candidates.
Examiner log in
The examiner logs in using their Examiner credentials.
Load the candidate's session
To grade a specific candidate, the examiner enters the candidate's Exam Number and logs into that candidate's active session. The dashboard then shows every available Procedure Station for that candidate.
Grade the procedure
The examiner clicks the correct station for the current assessment. As the candidate performs the expected clinical tasks in real life, the examiner uses the digital grading sheet on their screen to score the candidate.
The admin can see every logged-in examiner and examinee in real time from the Live page on the server.
Submit the grading
When grading is finished, the examiner clicks Submit at the bottom of the page.
Move on to the next candidate
The examiner can immediately enter the next candidate's Exam Number to grade them, or log out. The process repeats until every station — Question and Procedure — turns green for each candidate.
Phase 6: Retrieving & Exporting Results
Open the active module on the server
Return to the main server/admin computer. Click Manage Exams on the left menu and open the active exam module.
Export results
Click Export Results. You can format the final grades by either Percentage or Score. The software generates a comprehensive breakdown of scores for each individual station.
Review an individual candidate
Double-click any examinee's row to open their detailed score breakdown.
Inspect a specific station
From the detailed view, right-click any specific station for more options — including viewing the candidate's exact submitted answers.
